change your ways
I have been asked:
“What’s that tag line BE HAPPY. BE PERSISTENT. BE CREATIVE. all about?”
Last year I read Ed Catmull’s book “Creativity Inc.” and it changed my view on leadership, and I started thinking about my own style of leadership. I quickly came to the realization that I didn’t have a style or even an idea of what a style of leadership might look like.
After much soul searching, I realized that the key to be a good leader was CHOOSING to be a good leader.
I later developed this idea into the tag line you see on my site.
BE HAPPY….(the way you ACT)
BE PERSISTENT…(the way you WORK)
BE CREATIVE…(the way you THINK)
People view happiness as something they feel. They think happiness is an emotion. I don’t buy that, and neither should you. Happiness is a choice. Happiness is an action. Successful people choose to look within, evaluate the situation, and take action. Happiness isn’t something you find. Happiness is something you choose. Take action and BE HAPPY.
Don’t stop. Don’t give in. Do the hard work that produces results. Success is rarely achieved by a single massive action. Successful people become so because they buckle down and show up EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. They practice doing the little things, the things that require discipline. When you are faced with a mountain to climb, start that journey with a single step, and follow it with another, and another, and another. Do the work and BE PERSISTENT.
Creativity is a funny thing. People associate creativeness with being an artist or designer. Creativity is much much bigger than that. If you can think your way out of a problem, then you are creative. If you can make sense of the chaos, then you are creative. Some creative people use paint and canvas to express their talents, but your creativity is expressed by your service to your clients, the work you perform, and the way you run your company. Think differently and BE CREATIVE.
I know this way of acting, working, and thinking can help propel you in the direction you want your leadership to go. Give it a try.
